Whats the difference between EPDM and GRP?

EPDM is a flexible rubber sheet, while GRP is a rigid fibreglass system.

EPDM comes in large rolls that minimise seams, making it quick to install and ideal for large, simple flat roofs. GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) is applied as layers of resin and fibreglass matting, creating a hard, seamless finish that’s very strong and impact-resistant. Both are excellent choices — EPDM is usually more cost-effective for wide areas, while GRP is often chosen for smaller, detailed roofs where a tougher finish is preferred or foot traffic is expected.

How long can EPDM last?

EPDM roofs typically last 40–50 years.

Unlike felt, which lasts around 10–15 years, EPDM resists cracking, blistering, and sun damage. With correct installation and minimal upkeep, it offers one of the longest lifespans available for flat roofing, and many systems come with 25 year warranties.

Is EPDM better than felt?

In most cases, yes — EPDM outperforms felt.

Felt roofs usually last only 10–15 years, whereas EPDM can last three times longer. It’s also safer to install because it doesn’t require hot flames, and it stays flexible over time without cracking. Although felt is cheaper upfront, EPDM is more cost-effective long term.

Is EPDM suitable for all flat roofs?

Yes, EPDM suits most flat and low-pitched roofs.

It works well on garages, extensions, dormers, and commercial buildings. EPDM can cover tricky shapes and details like skylights and gutters, as long as the roof deck is sound. During your free survey, we’ll advise whether EPDM or another system, such as GRP fibreglass, is best for your property.

Can EPDM be repaired if damaged?

Yes – EPDM can be easily repaired if damaged.

Small tears or punctures can be fixed with specialist primers and patches, often in under an hour. Regular checks help catch problems early, keeping repair costs low and extending the roof’s life.

Having been duped by different roofing repairers it was a great pleasure to meet the One Stop team as they appeared so professional.  A fully itemized and competitive quote was produced as well as a timeline for doing the work. As the weather was extremely hot they started early in the morning and finished in mid afternoon.  Having said that they all worked flat out to keep to the schedule, and the job was finished exactly on time as quoted.  Well done to you all.  Great team effort even down to thorough cleaning up.
